If you're still in school in June, than t you're likely working extra hard to keep students engaged and motived (not to mention the low level of your own motivation!)

This mini-unit on Flag Day will provide meaningful activities related to the holiday, as well as easy ways to sneak in other skills practice like math, reading comprehension, creative thinking, sequencing and more!

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

• A kid-friendly article explaining the history of Flag Day accompanied by a sequencing activity that goes along with the article.

• An introduction to who Betsy Ross is and a student activity that asks students to create their own classroom flag.

• A "Stars and Stripes" game that has students matching cards to create number sentences that either equal 13 for the number of stripes representing the 13 original colonies or 50 for the number of stars on the flag representing the 50 states. Students show their matches on a recording sheet. This game can be played individually or in partners as a "Memory Match" game. The number sentences include adding, subtracting, dividing, or multiplying to make 13 and 50.

• 15 fun facts about the flag provided on individual cards that can be shared with the class, or read out by members of your class, or used to create a small bulletin board display.
